Who is Harry Potter?

 . . . by Kathy A. Smith

The main character in this popular book series is a boy named Harry Potter. Who is he? He is a wizard. Being a wizard is one of the forbidden practices that God hates. Yet, children around the world love these books about Harry Potter. The deception in these books is that Harry Potter is a "good" kid who tries to do all the "right" things, all the while using his forbidden magical powers. The books are filled with spell casting, occult, magical powers, and New Age teachings.

Christian ideals are totally ignored throughout these books, but they have an anti-Christian theme to them. Anti-Christian means the opposite of Christian. Everything a Christian is, the Harry Potter books are not. (Click here to find out how to be a Christian). Everything God is, the Harry Potter books are not. These books are a good example of Satan's sneaky plans to turn children away from the truth of God's word and over to his satanic practices. Instead of relying on God, Harry Potter relies on his occult powers to achieve his purposes and overcome barriers in his life.

These books are meant to get your eyes off of God and to get you fascinated with the supernatural, evil works of darkness. Many children all over the world are dwelling on these Harry Potter books and want to become a wizard so they can be just like Harry Potter. Looks like this book series pretty much uses all the forbidden practices of the occult that God warned us not to use. This book series is not pleasing to the God of the universe who truly loves you and wants you to dwell only on good things, not these evil things.

The biggest lie beneath these books is that the forbidden practices that Harry Potter and others use are not looked upon as bad things, but things that should be relied on. Is Harry Potter really a hero when he has gone against everything that God has forbidden? No, of course not! Seducing spirits are seeking to harm innocent children just as the Bible warned us about in 1 Timothy 4:1. This book takes a child into the dark world of satanic deception as Harry Potter attends "The Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry".

Let me give you a simple illustration. I am sure that most of you do not live on only just sugar; such as candy, ice cream, donuts, and other sweets. You eat more than just these things or you would eventually get sickly if you did not ever eat anything nutritious such as fruits or vegetables.

Your parents do not allow you to eat just all candy because they care about you and don't want you to get sick. This doesn't mean they do not love you, but they want to protect you. God is the same way. He alone knows what things can hurt you and this is why He commands us not to be involved in these occult practices. He is not being strict or cruel, but is reaching out in love so His beautiful creation (you and me) can be protected. It is only because He loves you and wants what is best for you.

If you obey God's word you will receive blessings in your life. If you disobey Him you will receive curses in your life. If you play around with things that Satan is behind they can hurt you. Satan's goal is to only hurt and destroy you.

Let's take a look at some of the differences between the Bible and Harry Potter books:

 The Bible (God's Word)

1). Teaches how to walk by faith and how to be obedient to God.

2). Teaches how to be faithful and let the truth of God's word lead you.

3). Teaches how To fellowship with Jesus Christ our creator and savior.

 vs.

 Harry Potter Books

1). Teaches how to rely on Satan's dark powers that God has forbidden.

2).Teaches how to use magical powers to reach your goals in life

3). Teaches how to fellowship with evil
demonic spirits.

Questions to ask yourself about Harry Potter:

1). Who is Harry Potter?
A). A Christian
B). A Wizard
C). A Normal person

ANSWER - B). A Wizard
Let's see what the Bible teaches about wizards.
"A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them" (Leviticus 20:27).
In the Old Testament of the Bible, wizards were put to death because they were very evil in God's eyes. The Bible teaches us in the New Testament that the days we now live in are called the "age of grace". As Christians, we are not to put wizards to death but instead lead them out of their darkness and to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. If wizards stay in their sin, God will judge them personally.

2). What Does Harry Potter do? (choose all that apply)
A). Casts magical spells
B). Reads the Bible
C). Studies his magical books
D). Practices witchcraft
E). Goes to church
F). Prays to God

Answer: A). cast magical spells, C). studies his magical books, D). practices witchcraft
What does the Bible teach about casting spells, learning magic, and practicing witchcraft?
"And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger (2 Chronicles 33:6). One of the Kings mentioned in the Bible practiced these things and make God very angry.
In Isaiah 47:9-15 God calls enchantments "wickedness". Because of this sin evil would come upon the people who put trust in these things, and these enchantments would not be able to save them. God is much bigger than any magical spells.

3). Who does Harry spend time communicating with? (choose all the apply)
A). Familiar Spirits
B). Ghosts or the dead
C). Jesus
D). God

Answer: A).familiar spirits, B). Ghosts or the dead

What does the Bible say about "familiar spirits" and "communicating with the dead" (a necromancer)?
"Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God" (Leviticus 19:31). To defile yourself was to make yourself unclean and polluted. This was a sin and was to be avoided at all costs.

"There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee" (Deut 18:10-12).

If you have read this article and have been involved with reading these books or other things similar to them, my advice to you is if you are a Christian you need to ask God to forgive you and then you must put these books and other things that have occult practices out of your life. (To learn more about how to avoid Satan's deceptions see our on-line book; "The Battle Between Two Kingdoms")TThis book covers many different deceptions that Satan has come up with through the years.
